The name is the method

Nate Mitchell has been painting houses in Hampton Roads since 2018, and the LLC was formed in 2021. The name is not a slogan. It is a description of how the work is done.

Most repaint bids in this region are quoted for one coat. One coat covers on the day and it looks fine for a year or two. Then the old color starts pushing back through on the sunny wall and the sheen goes patchy where the roller ran dry, and the homeowner concludes that paint does not last. Paint lasts. One coat does not.

The name points at the fix. Two coats, over a surface that has already been washed or patched, caulked, sanded and primed where it needed it. That is the standard and it is what the quote is priced for.

What it applies to is your written scope, and that scope is yours to set. Most people want the standard. Some hire us for a narrower job — one coat, or one room, or the trim and nothing else — and that is a legitimate thing to buy. Either way it is written down and signed before anyone opens a can, which is the part that actually protects you.

Nate does the walkthrough himself, and he is on the job rather than dispatching it. It is his name on the company and his work you are looking at afterwards, so when something is wrong there is one person accountable for putting it right.

That shows up in the reviews more than the painting does. People write about the crew showing up on time, taking care in the house, following up, and finishing what they said they would finish. One review mentions the crew installing a two-story foyer chandelier, which is not painting work at all. That is not a policy. It is just how the day went.

The PCA is the trade association for painting contractors in North America. It was founded in 1884, it is a non-profit, and what it does is publish standards for how the work should be done, run training, and hold an annual convention where contractors argue about exactly the things this site is full of — preparation, coatings, and what a scope ought to say.

Nate is a current member. That is worth knowing because it says he participates in the professional side of a trade most people run without ever looking up from the job. It is not worth more than that, so here is the boundary: membership is a subscription and a commitment to the association’s standards. It is not a certification, it is not a licence, and nobody at the PCA has inspected a kitchen he painted.

The work is houses people live in: interiors, exteriors and kitchen cabinets, plus the jobs that come with them — popcorn ceilings, wallpaper, drywall repair, decks and power washing. There is commercial work too — colleges, funeral homes, gas stations and daycares — and it has its own page. It is not what the business is built around.

Being a residential repaint company rather than a general painting contractor is a choice about depth. A crew that spends every week on lived-in houses learns what pre-war trim in Norfolk needs, what salt does to an oceanfront elevation in year three, and which shaded wall in Chesapeake is going to grow mildew back through a coat that was only pressure washed.
