Why the name
Two Koats means
two coats
Most repaint bids in Hampton Roads are written for one coat. One coat covers. For a year or two it looks fine. Then the old color starts pushing through on the sunny wall, and the sheen goes patchy where the roller ran dry.
Two coats is a different job. The first one seals the surface and evens out whatever the primer left behind. The second one is the finish you live with, and it goes down on something already uniform, so the color reads the same in the corner as it does in the middle of the wall.
That is the standard, and it is what the quote is priced against. Where it can differ is the scope: if you have specifically hired us for a one-coat repaint or some other limited job, that is your call to make and your written scope will say so. What we will not do is quote two coats and deliver one.
Two coats takes longer and costs more to put on. That is the trade, and it is the one we are built around. The contract you sign is what governs your job.

A five-year workmanship warranty, from the day the job is finished. It started at one year and Nate raised it to five, which is not a marketing decision — a warranty length is really a statement about preparation, because preparation is the only part of a repaint that decides whether it is still sound in year five.
How a job runs
Four steps, in this order
No stage gets skipped to hit a date. If the caulk is not dry, the coat waits.
Walkthrough
Nate measures, looks at the surfaces, and writes down what gets painted and what does not. You have that in writing before anything is scheduled.
Prep
Furniture moved and covered. Holes filled, seams caulked, glossy surfaces sanded. Bare spots and stains spot-primed. This is the part that decides how the job looks in year five.
Two coats
Cut in by hand at the ceiling line, the trim and the corners. Then all of it again, on every surface your written scope lists. That is the standard, and the scope is where any exception to it is written down.
Walk it with you
Room to room, with a light. Anything you point at gets fixed before the crew loads the truck.

Norfolk and Virginia Beach sit close enough to the water that salt air works on the south and east elevations faster than it does inland. Chesapeake and Suffolk stay humid most of the summer, which changes how long a coat needs before the next one can go over it.
Hampton, Newport News and Yorktown have a lot of older housing stock, and old trim takes more sanding and more filler than new trim does.

How long does a typical interior repaint take?
A three-bedroom interior with walls, ceilings and trim usually runs several days once preparation is finished. The variable is almost never the painting. It is how much patching, caulking, sanding and priming the surfaces need, which is what the walkthrough establishes.
What is the best time of year to paint a house exterior in Hampton Roads?
Late spring once the heaviest pollen has dropped, and early autumn. Both give a coat time to cure before it takes weather. Deep summer heat on a south or west wall shortens open time and causes lap marks, and heavy spring pollen can settle into a coat before it sets.
What other work do you do besides painting?
